Trees of Ardent Scarlet

A patch of red upon a hill of green
The first herald of fall that I have seen
The simmering crimson of those rustling trees
Sends out its summons upon the lilting breeze

To waken bursts of orange and splashes of yellows
To rise up around those ruby red fellows
Till the cascade of colors on that happy glade
Is as joyous a scene as any artist yet made

But for now I'll cherish my few cherry friends
These first to come calling after summer ends
For I must confess, of all the colors of fall
The trees of ardent scarlet are my favorite of all
